Trustee, Middlesex County
Vice-Chair of the TVDSB
Over the past 15 years I have fulfilled many roles in education locally, at the district school level and at the provincial level. While my children were in school I was an actively engaged parent advocate with leadership roles locally with school councils and at the district school level as the founder and Chairperson of the Thames Valley Parent Involvement Committee. In these leadership roles my accomplishments include developing parent and community forums, spearheading policy discussions affecting change, promoting safe and accepting schools, leading and organizing National and Provincial conferences, and developing effective community collaborations.
As a trustee for the past four years I have assisted parents and community members, my skills and experience have translated to serving on many board committees including the Policy Working Committee, Audit Committee, First Nations Advisory, Board Review Committee, Chairs Committee, Culture for Learning, and the Parent Engagement Review Committee. I actively serve as a Director with the Ontario Public Schools Boards Association (OPSBA), as a member of the OPSBA Education Program Work Team and the OPSBA Policy Development Work Team. I have developed knowledge and leadership skills that enables me to be an advocate, a collaborator, an empathetic listener and an effective problem solver with a vision for innovative strategies that supports all students and champions Middlesex County schools.
I continue to support parents, school councils, Home and School Associations in the context of effective parent groups and parent engagement. Although my children have graduated from the public education system, I still see myself as a champion for public education and the role parents have as engaged partners in public education. At the local level, my community still embraces the leadership, knowledge and expertise I have developed over the past 15 years. I continue to be called upon to assist and support parents and parent groups' focus on their purpose of enhancing the accountability of the education system and promoting parent involvement.
I am committed as the Middlesex County Trustee – bringing the voice of Middlesex County and drawing upon my leadership experience with education and schools for the past 15 years. I continue to be dedicated to connecting with the community, seeking the perspectives from the residents of Middlesex County.
I am a life-long Middlesex County resident living in Strathroy with my husband Rick. Our son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter lovingly call Parkhill home. Our daughter Taylor-Ann, has traveled the world as a flight attendant and now works as an account executive.
